Rainbows aren’t usually associated with the Fourth of July but go to www.capitalweather.com and check out this weather blog. The post on June 18th is entitled “Chasing Rainbows” and one look will tell you why they were worth the chase in our nation’s capital.
www.buzzmachine.com the personal weblog of Jeff Jarvis deals with the usual blog related issues. RSS feeds, tag lines, and page ranks, oh my! If you aren’t fully versed in the blogosphere, it really is like a trip down the yellow brick road trying to get a grip on all the jargon. His political commentary is quite succinct, according to Jarvis, the war in Iraq is a PR failure.
The soldiers apparently are too busy blogging, among other things, to be bothered with this perceived failure. An imbedded writer blogs about his travels around Iraq with Deuce Four at www.michaelyon.blogspot.com. He brings the war in Iraq home with photos and reportage that really impresses on his reader the valor of these soldiers and civilians. I found Michael Yon by reading excerpts of his blog at www.mudvillegazette.com another military blog by a man simply known as Grey Hawk.
When things go reasonably well, soldiers come home and eventually re-enter civilian life. www.soldierlife.com chronicles one soldier’s journey back home. American soldier as he calls himself has just been discharged from the Army due to an injury. Join him for his homecoming in the week ahead.
What’s a homecoming without food? The blogs have got it covered. www.aspoonfulofsugar.net/blog has pictures of lots of yummy treats. Many of them have to do with Sugar High Friday or SHF as you’ll see in the captions. Over at www.davesbeer.com/weber_cam his family does the traditional Friday night pizza. Not as much here on barbecuing as the title of the blog would lead you to believe, but a good food blog. In the category of funny food titles www.holyshitake.com takes the cake. Mushrooms aren’t my thing so I was relieved to find an awesome twist on baklava. Check out the breakfast version of this sweet treat. You can find Maple Bak’nlava posted on June 19,2005. It sounds labor intensive with all the layering but maybe worth the effort. I wonder if she passed this recipe to www.iheartbacon.com?
