Careers, taxes and the Pope

Spring is just around the corner, my yard had little purple flowers to prove it. Still it is a time for renewal and there’s no better place to start than the blogosphere.

Nick Denton’s Gawker media group has a new gem in their midst, www.lifehacker.com. This blog is full of tips and tricks to help you get the most from your computer and ways to keep your gadget filled life running smooth. In particular go to the March 14th post to see a round up of free anti-spyware downloads.

I didn’t stop there. I had to read the whole thing and ended up linking to “Ten Reasons Why Blogging Is Good For Your Career” on at www.tbray.org/ongoing. Communication is key and blogging is one heck of a way to practice this art. But if that is taking things too fast for you, there is another tried and true organizational method over at www.43Folders.com. Go find out what a hipster PDA really is.

Spring is also a time for flying. That’s the word on the Aviation Weblog at you might have guessed this, www.aviation-weblog.com. This site authored by Paul Chaney caters to the private pilot. It has an interesting review of Steve Fossett’s recent record breaking journey around the world.

Stay in your own backyard and check out a Chicago father’s blog at www.healthylife.typepad.com. Getting back to the renewal theme this single dad has a lot to say about healthy eating. He also highlights some of the more disturbing trends such as young preteen girls taking up dieting as a rite of passage.

Maybe this will be the year to try to grow your own organic fruits and vegetables. I found www.bookishgardener.com when I was browsing through a new food e-zine entitled Saucy at www.saucymag.com. This lady clearly knows what she’s doing if she is able to answer memes with such detailed questions about her gardening preferences such as “single or double impatiens?” I’m still at the, “oops, I forgot to water them again” phase.

For a lighthearted look at food check out www.foodfollies.com. This blogging pair of John McNally and Kristen Fox post great photos while giving an honest appraisal of their efforts. The next time I visit I will be checking out their menu for recipes.

Death and taxes, there’s no escaping them, not even in the blogosphere. However there is help at www.500hats.typepad.com. This blog has a roundup of tax sites posted on 12/22/04 aimed toward end of year tax planning. Check out the links for useful information to guide you toward the April deadline.

If you are concerned with a non-recurring deadline, then you’ll need an entirely different blog. www.thepopeblog.blogspot.com is devoted to covering Pope John Paul and ought to have great stuff during Holy Week.

See you in April!
