Blog Hunter: Health and Resolutions

It’s over a week since New Year’s Day. Do you know where your resolutions are? For those of us faltering in our new found ambitions for weight loss, early rising, and other resolute behavior the blogosphere has come to the rescue again. Get to the point with www.putdownthedonut.com and follow their team of bloggers on the quest for healthful eating. Another interesting site is www.balance.divaflava.com. You can follow the diva herself on her journey to slim and trim. There’s even a celebrity to share your pain. Kirstie Alley’s weight loss blog debuts January 10, 2005 on the Jenny Craig website at www.jennycraig.com.
The end of 2004 brought another round of medical studies damning yet another batch of pharmaceuticals. This time pain relievers such as Vioxx and Celebrex took a hit. What to do with your aching back or arthritic knees? Before you dive willy-nilly into the alternative medicine route check out www.quackfiles.blogspot.com where the merits of many of those left of center treatments are discussed and sometimes completely exposed for the scams that some of them are.
Remember Renee Russo’s character’s ugly green gloppy drink each morning in the Thomas Crown Affair remake? Of course not, but you can view it in all its hideous glory at www.greenbarley.com/blog. If that is health then I might be running back to the doughnut.
Or just pass me the chips because January is when weekends are all about football. The bowl games start the month off and the Superbowl and Probowl wrap it up in February. Colts fans check out http://blog.rufhausen.com a blog devoted to Indy sports and the Colts in particular. (note: type it exactly as printed without the www or you might be led to a test page that doesn’t contain squat.) If your teams are all over the map, go to www.sportsblogs.org and you’ll find blogs for many others. It’s been a banner year for Boston so of course there are quite a few dedicated to the Patriots and Red Sox. Or if you are still licking your wounds from the bowl games, you can commiserate with your fellow college fans at www.fanblogs.com where they have something for everyone from Big 10 and SEC to NCAA and PAC 10.
While furiously searching for blogs dealing with New Year’s resolutions I came across www.lawrence.com. I clicked on and found a blog about resolutions and a ton of feedback under Cup o Joel but what caught my eye was Godjilla by Jill Ensley. Her December 29th column featured a list of contact info of agencies helping the tsunami victims in South-East Asia. While it is almost mind-numbing to read about the tragedy, it’s good to have the information about how to point and click and do something to help the survivors in those countries.
I’ll leave you with a riddle. What do you get when you combine Chinese New Year with the Scottish celebration of Robbie Burns Day? Read the next column and I’ll show you the blog.
