The festive stage musical Beauty & the Beast launches the Fort Wayne Civic Theatre’s 90th season on Saturday, July 22 with a special event.
The show starts at 8:00 pm in the auditorium with a Proclamation from Mayor Tom Henry’s office (presented by Stephanie Crandall), and remarks from Phillip H. Colglazier, Executive Artistic Director of the Fort Wayne Civic Theatre; and Civic Board President David Storey.
Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature, the stage version includes all of the familiar songs written by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Menken and Tim Rice.
The “tale as old as time” tells the story of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out…
Attendees opening night will receive a complimentary cupcake as they enter the theatre. Doors open for ticket holders at 7:00 pm. Following the performance the Civic Theatre Guild will host an after show party in the gallery that is open to all patrons - $3 at the door.
If you can’t make it to opening night, performances run every weekend through (and including) Sunday, August 6.
