FWDC’s Choreographer’s Lab showcases Fort Wayne’s new dance talent

Every year, Fort Wayne Dance Collective (FWDC) invites community dance artists to take part in an eight-week experimental choreography intensive workshop or “lab.” This year, FWDC is taking its annual showcase of Fort Wayne choreographers to the next level, featuring works from local, professional modern dance company Mikautadze Dance Theatre (MDT).
“Inspiring future artists and encouraging the possibility of pursuing careers in dance, and at the same time, getting inspired ourselves, by fresh ideas, are always welcomed opportunities,” says Elizabeth Mikautadze, Artistic Director of Mikautadze Dance Theatre. “We look forward to sharing our premiere work, Talkin', with Fort Wayne Dance Collective and the community and to seeing the other dance works performed by all of the Lab participants,"
The 2017 Choreographer’s Lab Performance will feature diverse and exhilarating bodies of work that cover all genres and represents choreographers of all ages and backgrounds. Pieces that will be showcased at this year’s performance include works by New American Youth Ballet’s Madalyn Pulver, and by Ashley Benninghoff, Director of Pineapple Dance Project (Fort Wayne Dance Collective’s Youth Performing Company).
“I knew I wanted to collaborate with MDT and other dance schools to enhance the educational value of the Choreographer’s Lab program,” says Mandie
Kolkman, Artistic Director of Fort Wayne Dance Collective. “As artists we learn so much from one another and it is important to expose the professional talent residing in our city. Ashley and I are thrilled with the progress of the FWDC youth company and studio dancers. We are eager to use this opportunity to show the community our own chorographical works.”
