Major collection of Indiana art at FWMoA

The Fort Wayne Museum of Art is proud to partner with the Haan Mansion of Lafayette to present a selection of works from the largest, most complete collection of important Indiana art in the state. The exhibit celebrates the Indiana Bicentennial with this important collection of our state’s most eminent artists and will be shown at FWMoA August 27-October 23.

The exhibit of over 50 artworks is part of the Bob and Ellie Haan collection. The Haans, who reside in Lafayette, have collected the work of major Indiana artists for over two decades and have outfitted their 1904 mansion with fine American furniture, decorative art, and — as space allows — selections from their extensive collection of fine art.

The Haan Collection included works by the Hoosier Group artists, Richmond and Brown County artists, and 1930s and 1940s Regionalist paintings. The couple generously shares their collection, loaning pieces to museums across the Midwest, but the loan to the Fort Wayne Museum of Art for this exhibition is the single largest loan in their collecting history.

Notable artists in the exhibition include George Winter, T.C. Steele, John Elwood Bundy, Margaret Rudisill, and Maude Eggemeyer, among others. Nearly 50 artists who lived or worked in Indiana are represented in the exhibition, one of the largest groups of Indiana artists ever exhibited by the Fort Wayne Museum of Art.
