The photo itself is pretty cool — you’re facing the West side of Calhoun Street between main and Columbia. The date is March 25, 1981. But the occasion is even more interesting. Patrolmen blocked Calhoun in protest as part of a walkout. Details of the dispute are a little fuzzy, but a former FWPD officer tells us it was “pretty much over pay. The city had no money so we ended up with one more week of vacation since they wouldn't have to physically pay for it." If anyone can shed a little more light, we’d be happy to listen.
