The Fort Wayne Public Library, located at 301 West Wayne Street, housed over a half-million books and was, at the time, the second largest book collection in Indiana. Fully staffed with librarians and clerical workers, the facilities of the library were available to the public at no charge. This great old library had wooden floorboards beneath the towering bookshelves. This beautiful building was torn down to build the newer ACPL in 1968.
