Carnival Exhibition, an open call show featuring over 50 Midwest artists, opens at Artlink on Friday, January 24. Over 50 local, regional and national artists are participating by entering works inspired by the “carnival” theme..

Artists were called to interpret the theme “carnival” in any way they chose. Local artist, Beth A. Collier, interpreted the theme by thinking of the carnival as a lifestyle. She sees the carnival as an embodiment of freedom for travel with less daily structure but a hard and lonely road. Collier explains: “I want to be lured into the tent, yet feel a little uncomfortable doing so.” She has created a mixed media piece that will be on display in the exhibition in the Sauerteig Family Gallery.

Also at Artlink — Artists’ Sketchbooks will be a collection of 10 different local artists’ sketchbooks on display for public viewing. Viewers will be able to look through the sketchbooks and see an artist’s thought processes and visual dialogues. It opens in the Mirro Family Gallery.

Artlink’s Annual Postcard Show opens in the Feature Gallery. The Annual Postcard Show is an annual Artlink fundraiser in which local, regional and national artists donate postcard-sized art that is sold and auctioned. Postcard donations will be accepted through February 25, 2014. The Annual Postcard Show sale takes place at 6 pm on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, and is open to the public.

Artwork by Cherie Droege opens in the Betty Fishman Gallery. Cherie Droege is an Artlink member and will display her paintings.
