Kassa, a Season of Harvest, is a Capital Campaign Fundraiser for TRIAAC, the Three Rivers Institute of Afrikan Arts & Culture, taking place at the Botanical Garden.
The campaign is to raise funds top purchase the building at 501 Breckenridge where the center is now housed.
Headlining the evening is Chicago’s internationally acclaimed Reggae legends the RootsRockSociety. Fort Wayne’s own Atlas Aura will open the evening’s musical fare for dancing in the Conservatory’s beautiful indoor garden.
Calhoun Street Soups, Salads, & Spirits will cater, with appetizers, dessert, and a cash bar.
First among the evening’s highlights will be a Silent Auction featuring works of art by award-winning local, Midwest and East Coast artists. Among the talented artists are Suzanne Galazka, Kim Waldschmidt, Jane Meredith, Diane Groenert, Kitty Konrad, Layli Magers, Maryam Ali, Kip Bailey, Robin Robinson, and Sue Sells.
Linocut prints from the collection of Dr. Margaret Burroughs also will be auctioned. Dr. Burroughs donated these prints to TRIAAC during her 2006 visit to the city. Dr. Burroughs, a founder of Chicago’s famed DuSable Museum of African American History, passed away November 21, 2010.
Other artists contributing to the TRIAAC silent auction include Derek Reeves, principal violist of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, and Arts United’s Artist of the Year, who is contributing a private viola lesson.
Handcrafted earrings by artisan Lisa Vetter, and books of poetry by Pushcart Prize Nominee Curtis L. Crisler are also among the items to be auctioned.
And Fort Wayne’s renowned theatre companies are also contributing to the night’s silent auction. The Fort Wayne Civic Theatre, Fort Wayne Dance Collective, and Heartland Chorale have donated tickets for future concerts.
If you’re looking for a venue for an upcoming event, you’ll want to get your bid in for the Wunderkammer Company Art Gallery — Dan Swartz has donated a six-hour reception rental worth $500.
If exercise is your art form, you’ll certainly want to put in your bid for a one-year family membership at the new Renaissance Pointe YMCA, worth upwards of $800.00.
More silent auction items will be featured, and items that organizations, businesses and individuals would like to donate will be accepted until October 4. For further information, contact TRIAAC Director Leticia Paige at triaac.info@gmail.com or by calling (260) 969-9442
