February 1965

Full confession: we’ve run this one before, though it was quite a while ago. But the level 1 snow emergencies of earlier this month, followed by a massive snow fall and a couple days of single digit temperatures, put us in a “winter storm” kinda mood. This photo — dated 2/25/65 and showing the corner of Main and Van Buren — makes us feel the chill. Was there a “Storm of ‘65” that’s talked about in the same hushed tones as “the Blizzard of ‘78” (or is it ’79)? We don’t know. We also have no idea if what were seeing here is part of an emergency response to a huge winter storm, or if this was just some dude who got his car stuck in an unplowed street. But it looks cold.
