Sure, big electric Santas and Christmas lights in downtown windows and wreaths on every door are great, but there’s something about this photo that sums up what a lot of us probably think about Midwest in the winter after the tree has been taken down, the friends and family go home, and the leftovers are all finished. Welcome to January! And mind the slush!

Actually, we don’t have a year or month for this photo, but we do have a where and what. You’re looking at the corner of Broadway and Washington. According to our information, that’s building became Fort Wayne’s first medical college building, but at the time it was occupied by the Broadway Hotel and, as you can see, Hoover’s 5 -$1 store.
