Now that the new year is here, it’s time to stop looking back on 2009 and start looking forward to what’s on the table for 2010, in regards to who will be releasing new albums, and who will be touring our region in the coming months.

January 12th will bring new albums from the likes of Ben Kweller, Laura Viers, OK Go, Vampire Weekend, Omarion, and Ringo Starr.

On January 19th, we will see releases from Spoon, Cold War Kids, RJD2, The Hot Rats, Wetdog, Major Stars, and Eels.

April is still a little cloudy, but will have releases sometime that month from Black Francis, Flying Lotus and blunt mechanic.

Also coming out sometime this year, but without concrete release dates, will be albums from The Shins, Beyonce, Beastie Boys, Devo, Coheed and Cambria, The Fugees, Lupe Fiasco, Social Distortion, Amy Winehouse, Testament, Gillian Welch, Gorillaz, Cake, Blur, LCD Soundsystem, and The Arcade Fire.

If you want to go see a national act, there will also be plenty coming down the pipeline in the next few months. Starting with January, Lady Gaga will bring all of her freakiness to the Elliot Hall of Music in West Lafayette on the 14th. Continuing that freakiness (with a dash of creepy), Bucky Covington will be at the 8 Second Saloon in Indianapolis on the 15th. Jake Owen will be here in town at The Neon Armadillo on the 15. Halestrom will also be here at Piere’s on the 16th. I know this next one isn’t a music concert, but I would be doing you a disservice if I neglected to tell you that Cheech and Chong will be at the Murat in Indy on the 22nd. Three Days Grace & Breaking Benjamin will come to town and play the Coliseum on the 30th, and the month will end with a performance from the legendary Richie Havens here in town at C2G on the 31st.

Moving on to February, on the 11th Shinedown will be playing at our own Coliseum, and Lucero will be at The Vogue in Indianapolis. Dark Star Orchestra will be at The Murat in Indy on the 12th. Chevelle will come to Piere’s on the 17th, and The Murat on the 19th. The 19th will also host Bela Fleck: The Africa Project at Clowes Memorial Hall in Indy, along with Here Come the Mummies at The Vogue, and Willie Nelson will be at the Centre in Evansville. Killswitch Engage will be at The Egyptian Room in Indy on the 21st. The month will finish off with Martina McBride & Trace Adkins here in town at the Coliseum on the 25th, and Terri Clark will play the Rusty Spur (also here in town) on the 27th.

March begins with Citizen Cope at The Vogue on the 2nd. Flogging Molly will be at the Egyptian Room on the 8th. Great Big Sea will play the Vogue on the 18th. Jay-Z will be at Conseco Fieldhouse on the 20th. Yo Yo Ma will grace the stage of the Indiana University Auditorium in Bloomington on the 23rd. David Gray will be at the Murat on the 24th. Needtobreathe will play The Vogue on the 25th, and Celtic Woman will finish off this calendar with a show here at the Embassy on April 1st.
