Tyrannosaurs Hives

With their funny suits and proclamations of grandeur (“America, we love how we have you eating out of our hands!”) Sweden’s the Hives were supposed to be the jokers of the garage rock revival. Sure, they were packed with more energy than a power bar, but really, they were a cartoon, weren’t they? Well, maybe, but with Tyrannosaurus Hives they’ve made an album that actually improves upon its predecessor rather than repeats old glories. The Hives are still fast, loud, and raucous, but they’ve incorporated stuttering, robotic rhythms reminiscent of Devo into their laser sharp garage-punk attack. The results are a lot of fun.
